Subculture
90s Fashion
Although I do not necessarily relate to a subculture, 90s fashion has slightly influenced my style. I take little part of what fashion was back then and attempt to incorporate it into what I wear. I admire what people wore in the 1990s and the runway shows from those years.
My adoration for the 1990s fashion, just like many others, began from the character Rachel Green from the American TV show 'Friends'. I felt like every episode she was wearing an outfit I would definitely wear if I had the chance. I find the iconic mint green dress worn by the actress Jennifer Aniston in 'Friends' to be absolutely beautiful - it is so simple and yet so glamorous.
90s fashion also brought back minimalist fashion after the more elaborate trends of the 1980s. Low maintenance after volume. This is something that I like for my personal style as I think that sometimes less is more.
If I could go back and live in any decade I would chose the 1990s purely because of the fashion style. Therefore I try to embrace part of the 1990s fashion into my wardrobe as much as possible.
Trends
My Opinion on Trends
What is trending or not trending does not directly affect my fashion style. I believe that completely changing the style of clothing that someone wears every time there's a new trend is a waste of money and contributes to over-consumption that the fashion industry should be working to stop. However, adapting characteristics or features from new trends can be very fun and creative! Personally, while I am interested in learning about and analysing trends, I do not tend to incorporate them into my wardrobe. I am currently more interested in buying only what I need, and if I do buy clothes they must be of good quality so that they last a long time, and I must be able to wear that item of clothing with multiple other items that I already own.

Trickle Down Theory - RTW Shows
I enjoy watching Ready to Wear Runway Shows as I find them extremely exciting and fascinating - it fills me with passion. Alexander McQueen's Spring/ Summer 2023 is one of my favourite recent RTW shows, for example. I pay attention to trends that arise or are reinforced by RTW shows, however I don't buy into them due to how expensive they would be but I notice the colours. I try to integrate colours seen on RTW shows in my outfits as much as I can while spending the least amount of money possible on it.

Bubble Up Theory - TV/ Influencers
I follow influencers online whose style I like, and so my overall fashion style ends up having some influences of outfits and styles I have seen online. Similarly, like I previously mentioned, TV shows like 'Friends' influence what I wear, or at least what I would like to wear. In addition to that, I also discover what styles I like the most in relation to other markets, such as menswear. An example of this is the grey trench coat worn by Joey Tribbiani (a character from 'Friends').
Fashion Adoption
My Fashion Adoption
I believe that I fall towards the end of 'Early Majority' and the beginning of 'Late Majority'. Although I strive to be aware of trends from when it's first being worn by 'Innovators', I only personally adopt them once they have been a little more established. This is not because I am scared of experimenting with fashion, but rather due to my intention to be a conscious buyer and therefore not buy into everything I see.
Once a trend hits the stores, it becomes more commercial and so there is a lower risk of it becoming a FAD; therefore it decreases the risk of me having bought into something that I would not want to wear anymore after a few weeks.
